The Wrindex

Publications Indexed

Most of the publications listed in The Wrindex can be found in printed form or in microfilm/microfiche form  in the Sutro and main libraries in San Francisco. If more convenient, microfilms for most publications can be borrowed by local branch libraries on the InterLibrary Loan System, and viewed by the researcher at a local branch.The microfilm collection that was used to create the Wrindex has been donated to the Patrick J. Dowling Library at the Irish Cultural Center of California, in San Francisco, and is available for viewing there.

Much of the source material is also available for purchase from the publishers of the microfilm editions. The Wrindex on CD includes information on where source materials may be purchased. BMI Imaging is a good source for historical microfilms.

Wrindex cannot be considered in any way a complete record of anything.   It does include a wealth of information from dozens of different publications and resources, including the following:

Six different San Francisco directories, State Militia files from the California State Archives, and other resources such as books on Irish American Voluntary Organizations, Parish Centennial Programs, Spanish-American War booklets, and books on San Francisco and West Coast Irish history.
